1- You are a proud contributing Author of Purple Hues-3, India's favorite Anthology. What is your story/ poem about? Is it related to your own life or someone you know?
Purple Hues has become a part of my soul, I started as a contributing poet for this anthology and eventually became a Managing Editor for the series. Pawan Sir has been a tremendous source of support and strength in my writing career. Our third edition is about inspiring others to chase their dreams. I wrote two poems for this anthology; A collection of a million stories and
You do not "own" me. They are a reflection of all the women I have known in my life.
2- As the theme of the series is Inspiration, tell us who or what inspired you to start writing.
.
I would like to share one of my favorite quotes about writers, "I don’t know what makes a Writer, but it probably isn't happiness". It was desperation, utter loneliness and emptiness within me that inspired me to start writing. I was barely nine years old when I started spending my evenings behind closed doors. As soon as I began penning down my thoughts, I felt free from the burden of unexpressed emotions. Today, I am a person who rarely ever feels sad or broken. This is what writing did to me; it is my catharsis, redemption, and rehab. If I have to name one person who acts like the wind beneath my wings, it has to be my husband who has bigger dreams for me than I have for myself.
3- Do you think that Artists have a social responsibility? If you had all the power, what is that one thing you would like to change about our world?
If I had all the power, I would rebuild everything. I strongly believe that humans have caused unimaginable destruction and devastation of our world. Artists appear like people from another world, they alone are capable of shifting our consciousness, awakening souls and moving world upside down. I do not know if they can carry on their shoulders the weight of social responsibility but I know that they are the only people who can change the world.
4- What is your message for the young, budding writers?
Write as if you are running out of time.
5- What do you think should be the next theme for Purple Hues?
I think it would be great to have a theme about what it means to be an Indian, considering current political situations.
