Purple Hues- 2 An Interview with Snigdha Jha

1- Tell us something about yourself. Describe yourself in three words.

Caring, considerate and creative

2- Tell us about your Poem ? How did you get the idea for it? What is it about?

My poems are about my relationship with my parents and the one and only elixir of my life my only son…..Skand .This anthology contains three of my poems. The idea of my first poem which is of my dynamic father comes from his sacrifices and service he did for his entire family. Being the eldest son of his family he worked tirelessly since he was 21 for a better future of his younger siblings and family. Not only this in age of hardcore male chauvinists he paid same respect and love for his in-laws and wife’s siblings.

These unique traits in my father compelled me to write a poem on him as a gift for his birthday. Second poem is from my mother whose generoisity at times irks me. She is so generous that she never thinks about herself if anyone asks her for something or she herself feels that the other person is in dire needs. This has won her both accolades as well as criticism but she is rarely either bothered or changed .Though at loggerheads with her on this issue for a major part of my life .

Lately I have felt that it is a quality to be appreciated rather than condemned .So I wrote a poem on her exemplifying all her unrewarded traits .Last poem however is on my only child son Skand. The poem recounts my journey so far .The exhilaration from the day of his conceivement .Addressed to him only it also gives voice to my expectations for him which is not of becoming only a doctor ,engineer, or lawyer only. But to be a good human being first having compassion for weak and the downtrodden.

3- Tell us about your Relationship with your Parents ? Incite an incident from your Life where you felt deep gratitude towards your family .

My relationship with my parents is very cool and friendly. My parents are very generous ,unique having compassion and love for all and sundry, they have tried to instill this in me as well as two of my other siblings. In fact, I am deeply attached to my family ,siblings and two of my very dear cousins. Every day of my life is dedicated to singing pains in the glory of my parents and all that they did for me.It is a very hard choice to quote one single incident because there are many and innumerable so I prefer to leave this question unanswered.

4- Tell us about your journey as a Writer.

Writing for me happened more by chance rather than by choice .However right from my school days, it was my dream to be a novelist. Vegetating in suburbs of Rajasthan where my husband is posted on a very honourable position I started penning verses in order to come out of boredom and melancholy. However appreciation from family, friends, publishers on social websites boosted my confidence and now writing has become my most cherished passion and profession

5- What do you do when you are not writing?

When I am not writing I mostly read either online or in print, Mills and Boon love stories have been my all time favourite and I never hesitate in gorging on them vociferously .Besides this, I either listen to soft oriental or occidental music .A long chirpy chat with my only sister is also enough to enliven my gloomy spirits

6- Who are your favorite authors/ writers?

My favourite authors are Gabriel Garcia Marquez ,Paulo Coelho, and Namita Gokhale.

7- How do you see Yourself five years down the line ? What will you be working on next?

Five years down the line I wish to see myself as a successful poetess and novelist. .My next venture is to start working on my novel “Happily Married”.A scathing satire on incompatible marriages the novel would try to depict the duplicitousness of male chauvinists of my motherland Bihar .It might take a year or several years but I really wish to write it somewhere in the near future

8- How was experience with Sanmati Publishers?

My experience with Sanmati Publishers is a satisfactory one.I have the huge appreciation for an editor of this book Nikita who is working tirelessly for making this book a huge hit .I wish her all the luck and success in all her future endeavours

9- What would be your message for our readers?

Only two slogans for all my future readers “Always Follow Your Instinct”, ”Explore The Unexpected”

10- Would you like to share few lines from your Poetry at Purple Hues

Two lines from my favourite poem on my father

My father stands tall

In a world dominated by hypocrisies and allegations

An elder son of a huge family

He was overburdened with liabilities
