Purple Hues -2 An Interview with Manisha Shishodiya

1- Tell us something about yourself. Describe yourself in three words.

Positive, Emotional, Strong Headed – I’m a person who is full of energy and lots of positivity. Most of the times you would find me very cheerful. However, I am also a person of intense emotions. Love for me is very important in all relationships and I’m a person who values relationships. I’m also quite a headstrong individual, I guess that’s what makes me true Taurean!

2- Tell us about your Poem ? How did you get the idea for it? What is it about?

My First poem ‘Slumber’ is about a mother who has just lost her son – an army man. It’s about capturing that moment when she walks closer to her son’s just brought in dead body, how she recollects him as a little baby and suddenly she realizes that the baby turned into a young lady and left her forever… It ends on a painful note “My wait for you to get up again, forever it shall take”.

The idea of slumber came in as I was watching a movie “Rang De Basanti” on the telly and right there next to me on my bed, my 2-year-old son was sleeping. Suddenly that scene where a mother loses her army son sent shivers down my spine as I saw my little one right beside me in a quiet slumber and the agony of a mother’s loss on TV.

The second poem “Mommy Said” I guess is every woman’s story. We as daughters, all our growing years have heard our mommies preaching us lots of things which we used to ignore. But as we grew up in life and had children of our own, we started to realize that knowingly or unknowingly, we turned out to be replicas of our moms. All that seemed like a lecture suddenly started making all sense. And Thus came out “Mommy Said”

3- Tell us about your Relationship with your Parents ? Invite an incident from your Life where you felt deep gratitude towards your family .

In one word, I can sum up my relationship with my parents as “great”. They have been the guides when guidance was required, friends when friendship was required and the provider of all needs- materialistic, spiritual and emotional. As I am growing each day, I realize that every bit of me that I am proud of is because of my parents, my upbringing and the atmosphere that my parents provided me. I owe the depth of my character, my positive outlook and my level-headedness to my parents.

4- Tell us about your journey as a Writer.

From a very young age, I dreamt of being a writer. I used to literally dream about getting International Literary Awards! I started writing from a very young age – poetry, stories, just regular scribbles but I never really took the effort of writing for publishing. Hundreds of poetries were written on small pieces of papers which eventually got lost. So while I had a dream, I didn’t methodically do anything about it until one fine day one of my friends became a published author. That motivated me and I started writing and participating in literary events. I wrote and submitted my work to some publishers but only a few got success. But the beauty of success is that it motivates your further. Exactly what happened to me and I started focusing more and more on writing. As an offshoot of creative writing interest, today I even have a business of content writing services.

5- What do you do when you are not writing?

I have a business of training and content development services. So most of the times, I'm actually writing- either for pleasure or for work. However, I do ensure that I pull out quality time with my family, travel around and take vacations and also take care of my household responsibilities.

6- Who are your favorite authors/ writers?

Personally, I’m a fan of English Classics. Being exposed to Shakespeare at a very early age has indeed left an impression on me and so I do love reading his plays and sonnets.

7- How do you see Yourself five years down the line ?What will you be working on next?

I don’t know. While I want to have one big 5-year goal to achieve, I know for a fact that I can’t plan for that long. So I live by the moment. Though of course, there’s huge wish list of which certain items would surely be my focus for the next year or 2.

8- How was experience with Sanmati Publishers?

Sanmati gave me my first published poem and hence will always hold a special place in my heart. It has been a great pleasure to be associated and working with the team.

9- What would be your message to our readers?
I would like to say that reading as a habit is dying down especially with the newer generation and that is very disheartening. I would sincerely urge all our readers to continue the habit of reading and inculcate this habit in the younger generation. Buy them books as gifts. Read out to them or read them. Help them develop this beautiful habit. Trust me, it gives a beautiful new dimension to your mind and character.

10- Would you like to share few lines from your Poetry at Purple Hues-2

“…..Your tiny hands held my finger, those lovely eyes shut in peace,

That buttony nose, that shone you apart, tickled with the breeze…

I sat beside, admiring you waiting for you to wake.”…
